Popis rostliny
Yucca potosina, v angličtině „Potosi Palm“ or „Potosi Soapwort“ Palm, je rostlinný druh z čeledi Asparagaceae, původem z východního středního Mexika od Hidalgo po San Luís Potosí. Proto se jmenuje Yucca Potosi. Někdy se pěstuje jako okrasná rostlina, ale není moc známá. Dorůstá do výšky 8 m, má masivní kmen, listy jsou velmi tvrdé a jejich konce velmi ostré. Listy jsou zelenomodré a mohou být dlouhé 80 - 100 cm, mají malé ochlupení, které je chrání před mrazem. Květenství rostliny je dlouhé až 120 cm. Květy jsou bílé, podlouhlé, až 50 mm dlouhé a 15 mm široké. Často se tato rostlina plete s Yucca Carnerosana. Pozná se až po odkvetení. Yucca Carnerosana má obrovský vzpřímený hrot, zatímco Yucca Potosina má nádherný květinový hrot a menší květ.
Yucca potosina, tak jako všechny ostatní juky, potřebuje velmi dobře odvodněnou písčitou půdu a plné slunce.
V suchu by rostlina měla být odolná -10° C až -15° C. Měla by mít zimní ochranu proti dešťovým srážkám, sněhu i mrazu, nejlépe nějaký kryt nebo přístřešek přes zimu, protože je choulostivá na srážky a vlhkost.
Velmi doporučujeme výsev tohoto exempláře do volné půdy v ČR. Doporučujeme ji vysadit na jižní straně zahrady, nejlépe do skalky nebo do vyššího terénu než je okolní půda. Juky a agáve by měly být VŽDY vysazovány minimálně 20 - 30 cm nad okolní půdu, aby přebytečná voda odtekla od rostliny a nezůstávala kolem kořene a kmene, jinak kořeny i kmen začnou uhnívat.

Description
Yucca potosina also called the Potosi Palm or The Potosi Soapwort Palm) is a plant species of the family Asparagaceae, native to eastern central Mexico from Hidalgo to San Luís Potosí.That is why the yucca is called "Potosi." It is NOT a PALM nor does it have anything to do with a palm so don’t be mislead by it’s common names. It is just a pseudonym. It is sometimes grown as an ornamental plant, but is not widely known. It grows up to a height of 8 m with a massive trunk and its leaves are very hard and its tips are very sharp. The leaves are greenish-blue and can be from 80 -100 cm long and have small hairs that protects the plant from frost. Its inflorescence is up to 120 cm long. The flowers are white, and can grow up to 50 mm in length and 15 mm in width. This yucca is often confused with a yucca "Carnerosana", and is practically unrecognizable until after flowering. Yucca carnerosana produces a huge upright spike, while Yucca potosina has a much shorter floral spike. Yucca Potosina also has smaller flowers then the carnerosana.
This yucca, like all other yuccas, needs a very well drained sandy soil and full sun.
If the plant is outside in the ground and kept totally dry all winter it should be resistant between -10°C / -15°C. If your garden is located in a rainy, snowy and frosty area then it’s best to protect it from these drastic weather conditions in the winter time as most yuccas don’t like excess moisture and rain combined with low frosty temperatures. If planting in colder zones than zone 8, than winter protection using either heating cables with garden cloth or a miniature shelter or evn perhaps building a small glasshouse over it made from polycarbonate pannels and a fan heater wil be essential.
We highly recommend planting this specimen in open soil on the south side of the garden prefferably in a rockery or on higher ground. Yucca plants and agaves should ALWAYS be planted a minimum of 20-30 cm above surrounding ground so that excess water leaks away from the base of the plant and doesn’t remain around the root system and the base of the trunk or root and trunk rot will start to occur if the duration period is longer. They love being planted nearby rocks and stones as they heat up from the sun giving the yucca and agave roots lots of needed heat during the vegetation period.
