Popis rostliny
Yucca schottii se vyskytuje v jihovýchodní Arizoně, jihozápadním Novém Mexiku a severním Mexiku, kde roste v nadmořských výškách 1 200 – 2 150 metrů.
Tato krásná juka se vyskytuje jak na přímém slunci, tak i ve stínu na loukách i v otevřených horských lesích, ve kterých rostou i dubové stromy a borovice. Ve vlhčím podnebí je velmi mrazuvzdorná, až do -18° C a v suchých podmínkách odolává i neuvěřitelným -23° C. Mladé rostliny Yucca Schottii mají jediný, nerozvětvený kmen o šířce 20 - 30 cm a dorůstají do výšky mezi cca 2 - 5 metrů. Starší rostliny mohou mít několik jednoduchých větví nebo více kmenů, které vyrůstají z mateřského kmenu. Rostlina tvoří jednu hlavu s modrošedými nebo šedozelenými tuhými rovnými listy, ale někdy mohou být i mírně zakřivené. Listy jsou dlouhé 50 - 100 cm a široké 2,5 - 6 cm.Květenství je bílé a dlouhé 40 - 90 cm.
Yucca Schottii, jako všechny ostatní juky potřebuje velmi dobře odvodněnou písčitou půdu a plné slunce. V suchu by rostlina měla být odolná mezi -18° C / -23° C. Měla by mít zimní ochranu proti dešťovým srážkám, sněhu i mrazu, nejlépe nějaký kryt nebo přístřešek přes zimu, protože je choulostivá na srážky a vlhkost.
Velmi doporučujeme výsev tohoto exempláře do volné půdy v ČR. Doporučujeme ji vysadit na jižní straně zahrady, nejlépe do skalky nebo na vyšší místo než je okolní půda. Juky a agáve by měly být VŽDY vysazovány minimálně 20 - 30 cm nad okolní půdu, aby přebytečná voda odtekla od rostliny a nezůstávala kolem kořenového systému a kmene, jinak by kořeny i kmen začaly uhnívat.

Description
Yucca Schottii occurs in southeast Arizona, southwest New Mexico and northern Mexico, were it grows at elevations of 1200-2150 m ( 3636 - 6515 ft). You can find it in full sun, partial shade in open grass or mountain forests with oak and pine trees.Young Yucca schottii plants have a single, unbranched trunk 20-30 cm (50.8 - 76.2 inches )wide and about 2-5 m (3 - 15 ft ) tall, while older plants may have a few simple branches, or more than one trunk from the base.
The plant forms a single head, with bluish-grey or grayish-green rigid, straight leaves, but can sometimes be slightly curved.The leaves are 50-100 cm ( 19.7 - 39.4 inches )long and 2.5-6 cm ( 1 - 15 inches ) wide, and end in a light brown terminal spine.The inflorescence is 40-90 cm (15.7 - 35.4 inches) long end held partially above the leaves, with white flowers of 2.5-5 cm (1 - 2.2 inches )long.It is very cold hardy down to -18°C (0.4 F) in wetter climates and -23°C ( -9.4 F ) in drier climates.
This yucca, like all other yuccas, needs a very well drained sandy soil and full sun.If the plant is outside in the ground and kept totally dry all winter it should be resistant to the above mentioned temperatures. If your garden is located in a rainy, snowy and frosty area then it’s best to protect it from these drastic weather conditions in the winter time as most yuccas don’t like excess moisture and rain combined with low frosty temperatures.
We highly recommend planting this specimen in open soil on the south side of the garden prefferably in a rockery or on higher ground. Yucca plants and agaves should ALWAYS be planted a minimum of 20-30 cm above surrounding ground so that excess water leaks away from the base of the plant and doesn’t remain around the root system and the base of the trunk or root and trunk rot will start to occur if the duration period is longer. They love being planted nearby rocks and stones as they heat up from the sun giving the yucca and agave roots lots of needed heat during the vegetation period.
