Popis
Yucca baccata patří k těm nejmrazuvzdornějším jukám. Původní místa výskytu této juky jsou v Mexiku, Kalifornii, Utahu a Texasu. Vyskytuje se totiž ve výškách 750 až 2500 m nadmořské výšky. Kolonie byly nalezeny i ve státech Arizona, Nevada nebo Colorado, kde je v takovýchto výškách opravdu drsné klima. Snáší doslova extrémní podmínky, ať už sucho nebo silné mrazy. Dorůstá do výšky okolo 1 - 1,5 metru (bez květenství). Tato juka roste pomalu. Listy jsou zelenomodré, jeden metr dlouhé a tvoří po hranách vlákna. Často tvoří shluky rostlin cca 4 x 4 metry.
Květenství dorůstá do 1,5 metru. Yucca baccata plodí jedlé plody, které připomínají banán, proto se této juce přezdívá "banánová juka". Také se nazývá „ broad leaf yucca“ v angličtině. Je odolná vůči mrazu až do -29° C, ale za naprosto suchých podmínek v zimě. V našich podmínkách jí někdy dělá problém přílišná zimní vlhkost. Pokud ji na zimu zastřešíme, nemusíme se o ni vůbec bát.
Tato juka potřebuje velmi dobře odvodněnou písčitou půdu a plné slunce. V zimě musí mít suchý kořenový zábal. Takto bez problému přežije teploty do -29°C.
Doporučujeme ji vysadit na jižní straně zahrady, nejlépe do skalky nebo na vyšší místo než je okolní půda. Juky a agáve by měly být VŽDY vysazovány minimálně 20 - 30 cm nad okolní půdu, aby přebytečná voda odtekla od rostliny a nezůstávala kolem kořenového systému a kmene, jinak by kořeny i kmen začaly uhnívat.
Velmi doporučujeme výsev tohoto exempláře do volné půdy v ČR.

Yucca baccata -29°C – Maximum height at maturity 1 - 1.5m ( 3 – 4.5 ft ).
Description
Yucca baccata is one of the most hardiest yuccas that is native to Mexico, California, Utah and Texas. It is found at altitudes of 750 to 2500 m ( 2460 – 8202 ft ) above sea level. Colonies have also been found in the states of Arizona, Nevada and Colorado, where the climate is really harsh in these altitudes. This yucca can literally tollerate extreme weather conditions, either long periods of drought or severe frosts during the winter season. It grows to a height of about 1 to 1.5 metres 3-4.5 ft ) not counting the total height of its inflorescence. Y. baccata grows very slowly. The leaves are greensh-blue, 1 m ( 3 ft ) long and form fibres along the edges. They often form clumps of plants about 4 x 4 metres (12 x 12 ft).
The inflorescence grows to 1.5 metres (4.5 ft ). Yucca baccata produces edible fruits that resemble a banana, hence the nickname 'banana yucca'. It is also known as the “broadleaf yucca” or the “datil yucca.” It is cold hardy to -29°C (-20°F). The plant will suffer more in colder zones which have higher moisture levels rather than in drier zones. Too much winter moisture in the soil maybe a problem as they are very succeptible to high water content. If the plant, however has a winter cover either in the form of a roof overhead or a glasshouse cover made from polycarbonate pannels and the root system is kept dry all winter long than it will absolutely have no problems surviving the above mentioned temperatures and we needn’t have to worry about it.
Like all other yuccas, it likes to be planted in full sun and well drained soil preferably on the south side of the garden in a rock garden or (rockery). They love being planted by nearby rocks and stones because they get heated up by the sun, thus giving the roots of the plant a lot of necessary heat during the growing season.
Yuccas and agaves should ALWAYS be planted at least 20-30 cm above the surrounding soil so that excess water flows away from the plant's roots and does not remain around the root system. Otherwise, the roots and the trunk could start to rot.
